We recommend your pool water to reach halfway to three-quarters up the skimmer.
What happens if your swimming pool water level is too high?
Your skimmer won’t work as efficiently, if your pool water is too high. While this isn’t a very serious problem, it can create more maintenance work for you. If your water is a little on the high side, take into consideration that natural evaporation, activities like vacuuming and backwashing can help lower your water level.
Using your pool pump’s multiport valve by switching it to the “WASTE” position.

  1. Start with your pump OFF.
  2. Open the two-way valve if there is one.
  3. Move the multiport valve to “WASTE”.
  4. Turn the pump ON and run until you reach the desired water level.
  5. Turn the pump OFF
  6. Move the multiport valve back to “FILTER”
  7. Close the two-way valve if there is one.

What happens if your swimming pool water level is too low?
Your skimmer can bottom out and suck air into your filter system, if your pool water is too low. If that happens, you are at risk for burning out the motor on your pool pump. So you should definitely keep an eye on the water level of your swimming pool because that could be an expensive fix.
How to Raise Your Pool Water Level
The simple way to add water to your pool is using your backyard water hose, but remember you need to balance your pool water. Adding fresh water can throw your pool chemicals off.
