Coronavirus and Water Safety
CDC Coronavirus Update
While waterborne diseases are always a major concern in any recreational water environment, there is no evidence that COVID-19 (the coronavirus) is spread through the use of swimming pools or hot tubs. In fact, while many other forms of entertainment and leisure activities are being canceled or curtailed, the use and enjoyment of private backyards and swimming pools is just what the doctor ordered. With the consensus of medical professionals recommending avoiding crowds, social distancing, and working from home when possible, what could be a better, safer form of family entertainment then spending time in and around the swimming pool?
Again, COVID-19 is spread by coming into contact with an infected individual, not through recreational water. Yesterday (3/11/20), the Center for Disease Control released its findings regarding COVID-19 and recreational water including the conclusion that the virus is not spread through swimming pools or hot tubs. Per the CDC: “There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.”
If anyone has concerns about the sanitation safety of their pool or hot tub water, Hawaiian Pools recommends bringing in a sample to be tested in our retail store at 1280 N. Collierville-Arlington Rd, Eads TN 38028. Our trained staff utilizes the latest technology, LaMotte’s Waterlink Spin colorimeter labs, to test our customers’ water to ensure that your water is balanced and sanitized at safe, recommended levels.
So, while travel plans, concerts, sporting events, and even school days are being postponed or canceled, swimming pools and backyards are still relaxing, safe environments to enjoy with the whole family.
