LEAVES CAN DAMAGE MY POOL?

  • When leaves accumulate, they can cause several different types of issues.

                        I.            Clogging

Large build ups of leaves and other foliage can block water from being pulled into the skimmer, causing your pump to run dry, which could cause the motor to overheat.

                       II.            Staining

As leaves begin to break down, they bleed out tannin oils that will leave a brown or yellow sort of stain on the surface of your pool that is very difficult, if not impossible, to remove.

                     III.            Chemical Unbalance

Excessive amounts of leaves can drastically change how balanced your pool water will be, by taking up all of your chlorine and dropping the pH, making the water more acidic.

                     IV.            Algae Growth

Leaves only add extra surfaces for algae to form on, and with your chemicals unbalanced, your pool could become covered in algae before you know it.

What can I do to protect my pool?

Simply put, the best way to protect your pool from the negative effects of heavy leaves, is to take time each day and do your best to remove as many leaves as possible. Your best bet is to set a timer, and do as much as you can within a set amount of time, because you would have to spend every minute of every day in order to keep every leaf out. Chipping away little by little is still better than letting them continue to accumulate. It will take a lot of effort and time, but your pool will thank you for it.
